Becoming a State-certified engineer (DPE)
IMT Lille Douai is authorised to organise exams leading to the State-Certified Engineer qualification (DPE). It is a specific method for Validation of Acquired Experience, a real outcome of working as an engineer without having been qualified.
It is the only engineering qualification awarded by the State, whereas all the other graduate engineering qualifications indicate the awarding school. It confers a Master’s degree qualification and has approval for Level 1 in the approval list of qualifications and degrees for technological education.
This procedure allows a specialist panel to validate professional knowledge and personal experience in a specialism which will appear on the degree.

Who can apply?
Any candidate who can prove they have worked professionally in positions commonly entrusted to engineers for at least 5 years.

Application forms and all the procedures are available at the French Ministry of Higher Education website
These aim to assess the candidate’s skills and experience and include:
- an interview with a panel based on the submitted application form,
- the defence of a dissertation presenting the results of a project prepared during the 6 months before the exams and concerning the candidate’s previous work.
The State-Certified Engineer qualification in the selected specialism is awarded by a national panel.
