The key words of the projects entrusted to engineering students are initiative, creativity, openness and management. 3 concrete case studies are carried out during their course  for a client outside the school.

Prepare for the end of study project

The quality of the work undertaken by IMT Lille Douai’s engineering students and their level of performance are recognised by professionals. In addition, the wide diversity of companies and technological environments encountered by our students during their course through work placements and projects allow them to better understand the professions (and their corresponding roles). This makes it easier for them to plan a career path and choose a specialism. Especially given that the end of study project themes cover a wide spectrum of fields. 

Projects open in L3

In the 1st year of the engineering cycle, the projects available can be not for profit, humanitarian, sporting, cultural, scientific, technical, start-up, economic, legal or commercial. Cross-cutting themes in these fields are also possible: quality, environment, information and communication technologies, product creation, educational and more. They must however fall within the engineer’s field or area of interest. For example:

  • modelling and optimisation of the chassis of a Lotus Seven replica;
  • support in guiding secondary school students towards pathways of excellence; 
  • creation of a cycling orientation app.

Research exploration projects

In the 2nd year of the engineering cycle, research exploration projects enable all engineering students to develop a sense of creativity and research. They promote collaboration between teacher-researchers, companies and students, and give some of them a taste for a research perspective (monitoring by a PhD student, R&D-type study, illustration of a phenomenon, product development, etc.). For example: 

  • incremental construction of maps by an autonomous mobile machine using ultrasonic sensors;
  • design and optimisation of a reactor for the treatment of water by solar photocatalysis;
  • determining the coefficient of thermal expansion of thermoplastic polymers.

Scientific and technical projects

In the final year, students conclude their course with a scientific and technical project. This is carried out on research or development subjects with an external partner, research laboratories or companies. For example: 

  • sizing and testing of a “solar air collector”;
  • design and production of a concrete mould for realising a benchmark project using reused materials;
  • design and production of a platform for demonstrating supervision, archiving and metrological monitoring tools.
