The fusion of the physical and digital worlds leads to the design of so-called pervasive, secure and intelligent systems (smart system, smart communications and networking, smart building, smart manufacturing, smart composite structures, etc.). Faced with the heterogeneity and dynamicity of the environment and data, they must adapt their behaviour to provide the best possible responses to uses and end users, as well as create fluid interactions between humans and their environment.

Distributed constrained systems

In this context, ARTS (Autonomous Resilient Systems) is particularly related to distributed and constrained systems, in other words a physical or software system that meets potentially conflicting management objectives defined by users.

  • Distributed: we study systems made up of different elements distributed in a space or in different machines. Everything is connected by a network communication infrastructure, which as well as the transport of data, must now be intelligent, adaptable and secured.
  • Constrained: the constraints are multiple, sometimes contradictory, and strongly dependent on the application context. We are particularly interested in the size of systems and scaling up, dynamics (spatial, temporal) and limited resources (energy, computation).

The fields of intervention of ARTS

ARTS will focus on issues of connectivity, security/resilience, analysis/processing and actions.

Connectivity

The arrival of 5G will make it possible to manage M2M communications, but remains focused on reporting information from connected objects to the Cloud. The network then remains passive.

ARTS is working to secure and optimise these communication networks so that they are aware of their environment and so that the communication strategy is able to adapt to constraints.

Data analysis

Sensors and smart objects generate an increasing amount of data in a dynamic and highly distributed environment. ARTS processes the data received, optimises the decision chains and plans the evolution of the system.

Actions :

From a simple sensor to a network of mobile robots, the systems are very heterogeneous and require GL methods for the deployment of context-dependent services.
ARTS works on software solutions for modular and adaptable architectures and high level development platforms.

Security/Resilience

Cybersecurity represents an important part of research issues in the field of distributed environments. These dynamic and highly heterogeneous systems must be able to manage their protection independently.
