The diversity of access to general engineering training through excellent recruitment gives graduates an extremely rich experience. It is then up to you to choose a combination of Credit Units linked to the school’s teaching areas:

  • Digital systems
  • Energy and environment
  • Materials and processes

L1 and L2: discovering the engineering profession

The first two years are devoted to core lessons as well as discovering the school’s major areas of expertise. They mainly take place on the Lille site.

In the first year, visits to laboratories and companies, practical work and conferences introduce you to the challenges, operators, professions and specific skills in each field. All this guides your thinking about your professional orientation and your first company work placement taking place in the second semester.

At the same time, the 2 post-baccalaureate years focus on different modules:

Basic science modules

  • Mathematics: Real analysis, Elementary probabilities, Linear algebra, Discrete random variables and vectors, Numerical methods for maths (Python)
  • Physics: Geometric optics, Interference and Diffraction, Kinetics of permanent regimes, Modes of vibration, Electrostatics – Magnetostatics, Materials physics, Electromagnetism and propagation, Material point mechanics, Thermodynamics, Atomistics, General chemistry, Electrokinetics (permanent regimes)
  • Digital Sciences and Technologies: Linear systems (Laplace transform), Analogue electronics, Introduction to computer science, logic and networks, Algorithmics / programming / complexity, Digital electronics
  • Human and social sciences / Business sciences: Discovery and business structures, Introduction to accounting, Culture and economic news, Social science methodology, International economics, International management, Expression and communication technique, Project management, languages.

Elective modules (2nd semester of the 2nd year)

Choose from: signal mathematics, materials physics, advanced chemistry, transformation of matter, software engineering technology, signal technology, electronics.

L3: skills development

In Douai, this third year is organised according to different compulsory or elective modules:

  • Fundamental science modules: Analysis-Probability (integral transformations, Fourier series, PDE, discrete and continuous probabilities) and Statistics for the Engineer (Descriptive statistics, Estimation, Tests, Analysis of variance, Linear regression)
  • Digital Sciences and Technologies: From sensor to instrument, Object programming and data structuring, Databases (DBMS), Networks, Signal theory
  • Elective modules (8 to choose from), by nature scientific: Solid mechanics, Resistance of Materials, Design-Drawing, Materials, Fluid mechanics, Process engineering, Thermodynamics, Thermal transfer, Industrial electricity, Automation, Industrial networks, WEB technology, Digital systems, Digital signal processing, etc.
  • Humanities and Social Sciences -Business Sciences: Accounting and production management, Business strategy, Human resources management, Businesses and companies, Project management, Open project, Professional project, Internship search assistance, languages.

Work in project mode starts in L3. In groups of 4 to 6, you solve a real case on behalf of a client outside the school. Projects can be non-profit, humanitarian, scientific or technical. A 3-month internship concludes this year. The training, delivered via a modular pathway, allows you to personalise your training in one or two of the school’s 4 areas of excellence.

M1 and M2: defining your engineering profile

Masters 1 and 2 of the engineering course consist of Scientific, technological or transversal Credit Units (Unités de Valeurs or UVs). You must choose 11 over the two years (6 UVs in M1 and 5 UVs in M2) to make up your course according to your professional plans. Each UV represents around one hundred teaching hours spread over 4 weeks.

A course within a single field directs you to an engineering expert profile. The choice of a course in two fields will direct you towards a hybrid/transdisciplinary engineer position (engineer-manager, health engineer, telecoms & aeronautical engineer, architect engineer, etc.). You can also choose an intercultural engineering profile, developed by internships abroad, a double degree with a foreign institution, an international study period and/or by the choice of an English language course within the school.

At the end of M1, an internship of 16 to 20 weeks can be undertaken internationally. The 2nd semester of M2 is devoted to an End of Course Project over a period of 24 weeks in a company.

Admissions for French Students

L1-L2 after a Science Baccalaureate

You can enrol at IMT Nord Europe for your engineering training with a Science Baccalaureate completed. The selection is made by the GEIPI Polytech entrance exam, a 1st year common entrance exam at 34 public higher education engineering colleges in France. After looking at your application file (mathematics, physics, chemistry, French and English), the best applicants are invited to attend an interview. The others must pass a 3 hour written test based on the final school year Science program in mathematics and physics-chemistry.

Register for this on Parcoursup, as long as you are a final year school student on the Science program and attending a French or AEFE approved* secondary school. Registration fees are set at 60 euros for non-scholarship holders and are free for scholarship holders.

* A European scientific baccalaureate or a Franco-German baccalaureate is also accepted.

L3 after a CPGE

IMT Nord Europe offers more than 15% of the 1,500 places available every year to CPGE applicants by the 13 Mines-Telecom entrance exam schools. It is open to students from the Specialised Maths program or with equivalent training. It is organised on the basis of a separate classification for each of the MP, PC, PSI, PT, TSI, ATS and BCPST courses.

The entrance exam comprises written tests, known as eligibility tests, and oral admission tests. Register via SCEI-Contest. Candidates from the MP, PC and PSI sectors registered and eligible for the Mines-Télécom entrance exam and the Mines-Ponts entrance exam only take the tests of the Mines-Ponts entrance exam, with their results from these tests being taken into account to establish the final classification. The other eligible candidates from these pathways, as well as candidates from the PT pathway, take specific oral exams organised in Paris and Évry (at the candidate’s choice). At the end, you will have to give your preferred order of schools on the SCEI-Concours site. Offers of places are made from the beginning of July until the end of August.

L3 for EIIMs

IMT Nord Europe offers recruitment for Industry and MINES Student-Engineers (EIIM). This is a body of state civil servants, employees of the Ministry for Industry. Admission is based on the TPE/EIVP entrance exam, organised by the Ministry for Equipment for the benefit of five engineering schools, including IMT Nord Europe. It is aimed at second-year students of foundation courses for MP, PC and PSI (or equivalent training).

The rankings of the TPE / EIVP entrance exam in each of the pathways are based on all the written tests of the Mines-Ponts core entrance exam and, for eligible candidates, on oral tests that take place in Paris. Paid during their 3-year schooling at IMT Nord Europe, the EIIMs join the body of Industrial and MINES Engineers (IIM) at the end of their training. They commit to serving the State for at least eight years, generally at DREALs, DIRECCTEs, ministries, the ASN, etc.

Register from December to January on the SCEI-Contest website. The written tests are those of the Mines-Ponts entrance exam in each of the three pathways and take place in April or May. For eligible candidates, oral exams take place in June or July in the Paris region.

M1 after a DUT, a BTS or a degree

Admission based on qualifications in masters 1 is reserved for holders of a French or foreign degree or qualification at degree level (L3), BTS or DUT [similar to an HND/technology degree]. It prioritises the cultural mix, the diversity of individual experiences and of profiles. The process is common to all four schools (IMT Nord Europe, IMT Mines Albi and IMT Mines Alès  after putting together a file to be eligible for oral tests before possibly being offered a place.

The eligible specialisms are specific to each school and can be consulted in the leaflet.

M1 for M1 candidates

You will be able to enrol straight onto the 2nd year Masters at IMT Nord Europe if you have a qualification from a first year of a master’s cycle (M1) or can prove an equivalent or university level qualification in certain scientific specialisms. International students from IMT Nord Europe’s partner schools or universities can also join the second year of the engineering course through international recruitment sessions or by agreement.

To do this, you must follow the ASTG4 procedure shared by all 4 schools: IMT Nord Europe, IMT Mines Albi and IMT Mines Alès. Five places are available by this route at IMT Nord Europe after the constitution of a file to be eligible for oral tests before possibly being offered a place.

The eligible specialisms are specific to each school and can be consulted in the leaflet.
